The Fair 2013: Part Three

Finishing up the fair pictures, much to everyone's relief I'm sure.

Tuesday, I was back at my parent's camper feeding the kiddos lunch when my Mom came back grinning like crazy. She kept glancing over at Honey so I asked if Honey had placed well with something. She said no, that I had. I couldn't even begin to guess at what, so imagine my shock and surprise when we came back that evening and I discovered I had taken best in show for canning!

I entered a jam display too. They mangled it during judging.

By Sunday, my children were positively filthy.

We were gifted a pile of ride tickets (thanks Elisha!) and B. took the oldest 2 on the ferris wheel.

B. and I said it was one of the best fairs yet, though we couldn't pin why.

I was SO excited that 2 of my oldest friends were there, I haven't seen either of them in over a year!

As always, Monday morning I remembered all of the pictures I forgot to take. Like the one I wanted of me, Elisha and our broods. The last time she was at the fair, I was pregnant with Honey and I don't think she had even met her husband yet. 9 years later, we have 8 kids between us.

The Fair 2013: Part 2

Here we will visit the herbs, veggies, fruit and critters.

I *loved* how these herbs were displayed in this big enamelware pot, and was surprised that it only took second. 

Until I walked around and saw the other side. Garden gnomes? Really? Big ugly didn't fit in at ALL garden gnomes? WHY????

Kind of hard to see, but these are sunflowers.

Good apple year! (and I wonder yet again: why the Disney theme? It's a *fair* for goodness sakes.)

My brother and sister raised pigs this year, and it wasn't until I loaded these pictures that I realized the pigs weren't even in them. oops.

They didn't place with the pigs (Well, Andrea took 3rd in their class) but they did win grand and reserve with their market ducks! And set a record for the grand champ duck sale price- bought by another brother. It helps having lot's of siblings.

Here are my children and the pigs. We had to visit them multiple times every day.

We liked them so much we bought one. Which seems to make my dad laugh and my sister scowl.

Said pig is residing in the freezer now.

Here they are. we bought the one on the left.

Nigerian dwarf goats. I think I need some. They are good milkers from what I hear.

My children were also mezmerized by the cows being milked.

Not our pig, but it made me chuckle.

Miniature Herefords(?) Maybe we should get one of these...

The 2013 Fair: Part 1

    I was going to attempt to get this all in one post, picking and choosing certain photos to keep it pretty, classy and not all in your face fair-y. Who was I kidding? It's *The Fair*, what I look more forward to than Christmas and why do a few photos when a whole mess of 'em are lingering on my computer? So I'll start you out with flowers and sewing/crafting:

Made by Honey! She was tickled pinker than pink at placing BOS in her age category (7-9) with her very first sewing project. We used the Oliver and S free Lazy Days skirt pattern.
