Appley Dappley

Saturday, I made applesauce. It should've only taken a few hours. Instead, it took 14. Ouch.
But minus a burn on my arm, a smudge on the ceiling from the heating up explosions, and the first 7 jars not sealing because I don't know why, it turned out GREAT. ( As soon as I realized they weren't going to seal, I yanked the lids off and re-processed, so all was not lost. But when that's at 9:30 on a Saturday night, and you still have other things to do... I wasn't the most pleasant of people) I do so love homemade apple sauce.

Many hands make light work, and they had a ball!

Oh look, a cute baby! Actually this is last night. Look what someone has been doing for the last week!
I used Cortland, Ida Reds? Paula Reds? and Mutsu, which are behemoth  sized apples. Look how big it is next to a pint!
21 quarts. Well, technically, 22 and a jelly jar,but the j.j was to small to can, and I was not about to stay up another 20 minutes at 11:15 pm for that last jar to process all by its self. We ate it for dinner last night.
I want to can more sauce, and some apple pie filling, but I think I'm out of quarts.
All I have left to do is some pints of pepper butter, and I'll be "done".

Whew! GREAT JOB, Bonnie! *hands you cool drink* :) Looks SO yummy! I just am DYING to get my canning supplies and learn to can! Unfortunately, I just learn that you aren't suppose to can on a glass top stove! I have a glass top. MAN! :(

Anyway, just wonderful!!! I can just taste homemade applesauce now! What is your recipe?

Blessings!
Amy

I too love homemade applesauce! We used to make it with the boys when they were little. You reminded me of those fun days. Your kids are so cute and I really enjoy your blogs and pictures. I read them all but don't always comment. Take care.
Blessings to you and your family

I declared myself DONE on Thursday with canning for year. Then, I realized I had more tomatoes ripe. I tossed them in the dehydrator instead. :) Realistically, I'll need to do more tomatoes next week most likely as I have still a lot to ripen yet.
I was given one of those mill things. Is there a trick to it? I mostly just have had bug messes. It also turned my tomatoes the other day into juice. It would take days for it took cooked to a sauce! Oh well. Juice is handy, too.
