A Tour, Though I'll Warn You, The Light Is Crummy

So the pictures are a bit blurry and all that rot.
Okay, the back story on the house: a while ago, I was talking to my SIL's mom and mentioned that I wanted to make Honey a dollhouse cabin for her birthday, as she LOVES Laura and Mary. I had bought "Lincoln Logs" on clearance at W*Mart, and spent several busy evenings trying unsuccessfully to build a decent cabin. Not even a week after I had talked to her, G. was at the house of a family from the home-school group who was moving, and spied this beauty on their porch, and no, it was not going with them. Thinking of our conversation, she brought it home. Its over 30 years old, and made by hand. It was also a disaster inside. Cobwebs, dead Asian beetles, a spider, which I am not entirely sure I actually vacuumed up, and possible evidence that Tom Thumb and Hunca Munca may have resided there briefly. (if your familiar with Beatrix Potter)
It made me sad when I saw the fresh decorations someone had put up, the tape not even dusty yet, over all this mess.
The first order of business, was vacuuming the whole thing out, and ripping out the ridiculously strong and ancient contact/wallpaper, evidently intended to keep the whole thing from smashing to smithereens if it were ever dropped, from say 30 floors up. Then a good wipe out with disinfectant. Some shingle will need replaced later.
In case you forgot after all that rambling, the Ingalls Family lives here now, and its a relief to know Ma has trained her girls well in the way of house keeping.
The pattern I used for these has felt clothes, but I decided calico's were a must. Ma and Pa's hair was painted on with t-shirt paint. I don't really recommend that, but I was in a bind.
The Living Room. Yes I know it was technically all one big room.....
Curtains will happen some day soon.
The Kitchen. I am so bummed this photo is blurry, this is my FAVORITE room. I wish I could do it justice.
The bedroom.
(I will now warn you that a bazillion close ups are coming. I posted everything I would want to see better if I were looking at someone elses's dollhouse and trappings.)
The table, all set for lunch.
My favorite part of the kitchen and little jars of Parsley, tea, salt, and sesame seeds. I got the idea here. (thanks for the ideas Rebecca!)
Oops. That's not the kitchen. Oh and its molting season for fireplaces right now. What? You didn't know that? Okay, maybe not, but this is left from last years dollhouse (which kinda bombed. And what Biscuit did to the dollhouse people? A crime scene worthy of its own television show..... (but its because he thought their clothes should come off.))
Anyway, somewhere, I have the rocks that came off, but I can't find them right now, and there is at least 2 feet of snow on the ground at the moment, so finding more really isn't an option. And that's an "oil"lamp on the mantel. Made from a button and two beads.
The attic. Since Laura and Mary played in the attic so often, I had to make sure there was one.
Peppers are drying on the window, onions and garlic are hanging, and someday soon, there will be bags of flour, sugar etc.
I also made this for last years dollhouse, but finally got it painted, and clear coated last week.
The butter churn is made from an empty spool, and a bamboo skewer. I realise there is no stove pipe.
The beds. Ma and Pa's quilt is a bit big, so the end is folded under. Everyone has striped ticks we'll pretend are stuffed with feathers.
The frames if you are interested. Craft sticks, sticks, bamboo skewers, and hot glue make up most of the furniture.
No rocking done here. Couldn't figure out how.
The table. Which by the way (just like the rest of the furniture) is completely out of proportion to the dolls. I am trying to forget that, as its driving me nuts.
I made two stools, but really only needed one, so the other is in use as a table in the bedroom. This one will need a back, sine L&M fall off rather easily.
And lastly, the unspattered  spatter ware. I accidentally bought pearlized clay, which is why it sorta glitters.

Well props to you if you're still with me. I know this was LOOOONNNNGGGGG. But I had a ball making it all, and still have a few more bits to make later, like Pa's fiddle, and I've been told we need Jack and Black Susan, but those will have to wait.
Tomorrow, Biscuits gift, which I promise will take less time.

Honey is up now, and going back over all her dollhouse things again, I keep hearing exclamations of  "Oh! How Cute!" "Oh look how little." " I didn't see that before!"

First things first. . . Happy Birthday to Little Miss Honey!!!!

My girls always were enthralled with the Little House books. So it is easy to imagine how thrilled Honey must have been to receive this wonderful little cabin (complete with Ma, Pa, Mary, Laura, and Carrie). How blessed she is to have a special Ma of her own that would put such loving attention to the details. Your hard work certainly paid off. Thanks for all the close ups, because like you, I ALWAYS want to see the particulars.

You did a fabulous job. All of the little details ~ just lovely. I do believe there will be many, many YEARS of creative play with this.

Not long enough! I loved every single photo.

I had seen a photo of an oil lamp made of beads and tucked it away for the future.

Bonnie~ you are positively BRILLIANT. Every little detail is amazing. I love the cast iron stuff. I *LOVE* the butter churn.

Did you make the stove out of clay or a box?

The furniture is INCREDIBLE. When I was making ours, I would get so FRUSTRATED because my huge fingers were all thumbs when it came to gluing that stuff! I can't believe those chairs and beds.

The quilts are so stinkin' TINY!

I think Honey is the most blessed girl in the world and YOU, my friend, are the MOST TALENTED.

Wow.

And again (the last time I promise)

I have the SAME fabric you have as a table cloth. Mine is in shower curtain form but I fold it over as an ugly-couch coverup.

You Rock, Bonniebelle

Dearest Bonnie,

I have been looking through your posts and just had to leave a comment on this one in particular as it brought many memories of my daughter and her dollhouses!

She is now 24 but still has the fondest recollection of hours of playing and making all sorts of little things for her dollhouse families...so many hours of happy play.

I made many birthday and Christmas gifts for those wee houses and loved every minute of it! You are so talented and I am sure your daughter will keep her memories of every single delightful handmade treasure close to her heart!

I must confess I miss having littles under my feet and all the fun projects and time spent together...it goes by far too fast!

Yours so kindredly,
Shan

P.S. I left you a comment over at my blog...great idea about the mirror!
