It's Actually Growing

Much to my complete and utter amazement, the gardena are doing well! So Far. How about a trip around them, shall we? We'll start with the herbs. My lavender bloomed for the first time this year, I am so excited. I'll be drying some for dyer sachets. The lemon balm and mint need to be thinned. Guess be drying those too.
My thyme flowered quicker than usual this year, but o well. Oregano and chives are in there too.

Here 'tis, in all its just-tilled-but-still-a-bit-grassy glory.

I planted Amish paste and Hillbilly heirlooms. You can see where the manure we spread is by how they are growing. I'm not convinced it will be a great crop, but certainly better than last years nothing.

Beans didn't do so hot this year. I replanted and still didn't have as many come up.

Cukes are coming along, though small.

I picked a short growing season watermelon, but they are still a small plant. Not sure we'll get any.

Out of dozen seeds, only 3 sunflowers came up.

The zucchini and yellow squash look good though.
I ate one Sunday night!

And the peas.

And I need to clip some basil. Pesto? Yesto! (oh my goodness, did I really just type that?)

Its a pity these apples are awful, because there are a ton this year.

And this mysterious cherry tree...

Musta been good, it was stripped clean by the birds.

Found these two sprouts were up when I came back in, and yes if you're wondering, that is a little potty sitting outside the back door.

OOOOO!!! I love it. Mostly because it looks ALIVE, which my plants most certainly do NOT look at the moment. The only thing that seems to be surviving is the basil. I have lots. Ever made pesto???? I want to try, and most recipes seem similar, but don't know if I should blend up all the basil for that... Do you freeze pesto? I would have to...

Our garden isn't faring nearly as well as it did last year, but I think I'm going to have loads many tomatoes. Here's praying for a good harvest!

I love your title, as if you were surprised! hehehe!

And...the third picture down is wonderful.

I have been meaning to get a garden update up on my blog. So little time these days. I didn't plant any sunflowers a'tall. :-( oops. Someday I WILL plant a sunflower house.

Congrats on your garden! I love this time of year!
