I took over 200 pictures, a lot of which are blurry, but here is a bit of just about everything:

I mixed homemade pesto into my homemade pasta dough. Oh. My. Land. absolute heaven.

This incubator was a HUGE hit with my kidlets. Actually, everything our county farm bureau had was a hit.

This corn box. Where Honey lost both her shoes, but my sister thankfully found. Thanks again Christina.

Kids day meant a free doughnut. Miss Pokey Pants savored hers the longest.

Holding the chicks on kids day

My sister Anna nannies two darling children, just about my kids age. The girls clicked instantly, and hardly parted hands.

My SIL's cakes, ain't they purdy?

Apparently it was "Boat Year" in the woodworking department. They were so pretty though, I had to include pictures

Back row: Biscuits bean art (cowboy and horse) Honeys noodle art.

When I entered the "Dolls Other Techniques" category, I racked my brain to figure out what kind of competition I would have. The Molded-Looks-Real-To- The-Point-Of-Being-Creepy kind. The person did a beautiful job, but I'm not showing any pictures, because quite frankly, I think they look like they are dead. (On the outside chance that Elizabeth is reading this, absolutely NO offence meant.)

Like my little bag?

Beans went straight for the cars as soon as we got to the camper. He LOVES cars and trucks and tractors.

My skirt.
I also entered a jacket, but I guess I forgot to take a picture. It didn't place.

My apron. A last minute what do I have on hand that coordinates sort of project.

The apron that took grand.
I like mine better, even without being biased in my thinking.

Snoring away

LOTS of pretty quilts this year, I didn't even try posting all the pictures.

I don't like this pattern, but I do like the variation she did by making the houses all a different quilt block.

Have I ever mentioned how much I like these white pumpkins? 'Cuz I do.

Honey with her prize Cosmos

I was quite surprised I won. It was a bad year for flowers here.

Different 4-h clubs maintain gardens throughout the fairgrounds, this one always wins, and for good reason.

Aren't these fairy gardens cute?

I really liked this 4-h clubs booth, they made vegetables "growing in each box.

The required yearly tractor photo.

Biscuit is enamoured with "Bobcatsth."

The
kiddles also couldn't get enough of the bees. Turns out they live practically around the corner from us.

Funny story: Biscuit took one look at this and HAD to milk the cow, because "Farmer Mansth do it." The first day I told him there wasn't any water in it, so he would have to wait. He talked of pretty much nothing else, but watering the cow. Confused, I told him that he wasn't giving the cow a drink, it was only pretend. He could milk it. "Mom, how can I milk it if water comesth out?" Ah. Point taken.

Honey tried her hand too.

And after taking several days to warm up to the idea, so did Muffin.

Never saw a goat do that before.

Sigh. I want a cow.

My siblings took grand and reserve champion Market Ducks! They also had the only ducks there.

I guess Joel's rooster pecked a lot of unsuspecting teenagers, who don't read signes about pecking/biting animals.

Tippy-toes

Pop-pop and 4 of the grandkids. And B.

We don't do the midway stuff (well okay, I did get a gyro and a birch beer), but it still makes good photos.

Ice cream mustache. I didn't get pictures of the dirt mustaches.

I haven't done a ribbon count, I think I got 5 red and 9 blue all together. None of my breads which placed last year placed this year, but the so-so cookies I made (had to change the recipe at the last minute) took first.
Honeys drawing also placed first. Biscuits got a participant.
A very fun fair this year, except that a weeks worth of processed foods is taking its toll on my oldest 2. We aren't straying far from the house and bathroom this week.

*Gasp*! Love all the pictures!!! I'll be re-reading this post lots to drool... Good job on all the ribbons! And you're right, I like your apron WAY better, super cute!
Oh, and the pesto in the noodles - GENIUS! Haven't made noodles in a L-O-N-G time, maybe it's time, though.
Ah! SO MUCH TO SAY. Right about now I was wishing we were neighbors so I could actually CHAT.
Here is my feeble attempt at an online chat.
You make me SO jealous with your fair goods. I know I told you to post post post TONS of pictures, but now they made me miss the fair EVEN MORE (something I didn't think was possible.) I loved them all too, so thank you. I can sorta in a half-hearted, painful sort of way live vicariously through you.
wow. BOATS? Your fair gets some pretty amazing contributions! I have never seen anything like that before in competition.
First of all- did you make those rock dolls? Because if you did~ you should see what I have on my island from a few weeks ago. I practiced my Matroyshka painting on similarly shaped rocks. I rather stink at it (hence the lack of blogging) but I will prevail! :-)
Secondly. I am SERIOUSLY in love with your apron. You TOTALLY should have won. TOTALLY. I LOVE the color combination. I LOVE LOVE the style. Does it tie around the neck? My perfect apron would be that same thing except with it tying at the waist. Speaking of aprons~ I got a half apron (which I don't prefer) the other day that someone gave to my sister who then gave it to me because I wear them and it has a towel ATTACHED to it. Handiest thing EVER. It is my go-to apron now.
Your skirt is made of a very pretty fabric too.
I lovr white pumpkins too...and cinderella pumpkins. I can't remember if that is the actual name or the one I made up for them, but the short squat and very wide kind? love them.
Another thing that got me all giddy was your FAIRY garden posting. Not sure if it is yours or just something you saw but I have been TOTALLY planning on doing this, even considering making it a birthday or Christmas gift for Adele'. Times like this I really think the other half of my brain I always seems to be missing is in YOUR head.
I almost died of cute-overload when I saw that tip toe picture.
And congratulations on all the ribbon making! I wonder~ do you get cash prizes as well? My friend Abby made $40 buckeroos this year! I nearly croaked. Didn't know you could actually make MONEY.
Thank you for sharing! Looks like such a wonderfully fun time. I guess next year, if I have to go the fair MYSELF (even though it is over an hour drive away) with the children I will. Who needs Matt?! :-)
wow. My comment just published and all I can say is....
sorry.
(hides head in shame)
I loved all the pictures! And big CONGRATULATIONS on all your accomplishments!!! :)
I'm totally green with envy. I've explained before that our fair is NO fair in my opinion as we don't get to see exhibits like you have, and there's not even an animal in sight.
I LOVED your apron. You should have definitely won.
THanks for all the congrats!
Elisha- I everytime I snapped the camera, I thought- Ooh! 'Lish will like this!
Rebecca- yep, I made the rock dolls, and had an absolute ball doing it! It was great, if I messed up, I just washed the paint off. When I was done, I added a zillion coats of clear sealer to them.
No, I didn't make the fairy garden, actually, I didn't even see them until I nearly tripped over them! They are in wire baskets, and for whatever reason, were not judged. Probably entered in the wrong category.
I do get paid, but I'm not sure how much yet, the computers were acting up, and checks weren't printing. Wow, way to go Abby! (she gonna post on that? I sneak a peek in her blog door from time to time...)
Yes, the apron ties at the neck, but something I'm going to try to draft out. I don't get the headache problems you do, but I don't like the ties. I'm going to try making it a continuos piece. Someday. Probably.
I LOVE long comments, its the closest thing I've got to a chat!
well, if you ever DO draft a pattern, since we are similarly sized (I think!) maybe I could beg a copy?! And...the beautiful fabric you used. And you actually sewing it. HA.
THE LAST PART WAS A JOKE but I would love a tissue copy of the draft if you ever feel so inclined.
Maybe I will show you my rock 'children', as long as you PROMISE not to laugh like Matt did.
What a hoot! There's nothing -- ABSOLUTELY NOTHING -- as wonderful as a real country fair. Your apron definately should have won -- it was a beauty -- much nice than the other. Well done on all your prizes!
Elon (my newly turned 5 year old), said to me when he saw Honey's picture "SHE IS CUTE! What's her name?!" I told him her name was Honey and he asked how old she was. He was thrilled to know that she was about his same age. I thought it was really funny bc Elon hasn't yet taken notice of the difference between girls and boys and the attraction there.... until Honey!
He also said that the duck was "sooo cute." Then he said he wished he had a duck to eat ;) Boys, gotta love em!
PS, I showed Nathan the picture of Honey and told him what Elon said. Elon goes, "THERE is HONEY! She is soooo BEAUTIFUL! Look at her shirt with the flowers on it..." Now he's asking me "Honey's mudder's name so he can go report it to daddy who is in the bathroom. I think he is smitten!
Looks like a grand time. But, I gotta wonder...how did your apron not beat out the other? Yours is a whole heap prettier! Maybe the goat tasted some goodies left by tiny hands? I do love those white pumpkins. And, the children...oh my...how too cute are they!
How was the wedding? Did they get rained out?? Did you get dresses done :-) ?
How did I miss this? What a lovely post! Man, your fair ROCKS! ;) And all of your creations are WONDERFUL! :) I love your apron also!
