'Round These Parts

Yeah, I know, it's been awhile. No, baby (who still needs a blog name. I have none. No real name yet either, though we do have *one* possibility. Why must naming your children be so hard?) has not arrived early. So many bloggers want to share with you all the little tiny details of being pregnant "this is my ___ child and I feel so fantastic, all the time, each one gets easier!" OR "This hurts that hurts I can't sleep and I need sleep, but I'll persevere on, blah blah blah." I kind of want to smack them, and usually just skip the post. Here's what I have to say about pregnancy: There is a BIG difference between having your first baby at a month shy of 25, and having your 5th baby at 32. My brain is mush. The End.

On another note, I don't think I like the new blogger thing. I can't figure out how to get my pictures in order, and I will admit to some almost cussing. So some of these are in order, but most aren't. And two of them never showed up.

Happier thoughts. How 'bout some gardening?

~Muffin planting the peas

~Honey planting beans

~Biscuit planting sunflowers

~ Beans being cute

~The day we planted

~ A week later after grass mulching
(the kids worked so hard helping to rake grass and pile it in the wagon so I could spread it in the garden)

~ This morning. B tilled it and Honey and Biscuit spent the last two days weeding, which they thought was the most fun anyone could possibly ever have. Really.

~ My sister and I are throwing a baby shower in a week and a half for our sister-in-law Bethany. I made a bunch of hand milled soap as favors. This shower will either be fantastic or look like Pinterest threw up.

~ Starting at the left: Lavender Oatmeal; Spiced Rose; Oatmeal Chamomile Blossom; Green Tea with Citrus and Jasmine; Lavender Lemon Balm and more Oatmeal Chamomile Blossom.

~ We've been eating breakfast on the porch nearly everyday. It's either been too hot or windy for lunch out there. Yesterday I made these muffins, and added half a diced apple. It needed more, but they were really good.

~ I've started a new baking schedule which seems to be working well. Every other Monday, 4 loaves of sandwich bread and some sort of breakfast item (english muffin bread, muffins, etc.) It lasts until the next baking Monday, and I'm not caught without anything to eat.

~ B. shot out back with the kidlets on Sunday.

~ This is the gun he bought them for Christmas

~ Yes, my girls do always wear their finest to shoot in.

~ He showed up out back Saturday morning. I didn't like how he was looking at my garden. Come back around gun season when B. is home, okay?

~ Picked raspberries a few weeks ago. $3.10 a pound. I made 8 half pints of jam, and we are down to 4 or 5 thanks to making TWO of these:

~ White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake

 ~ Recipe here

~B. brought me one of the MOST gorgeous bouquets

~ New herbs this year: Rosemary, parsley, sage (which seems finicky), chamomile, pineapple mint (which I think I killed), and pineapple sage (which I thought I killed, but seems to be okay now). Also in here are "will never bloom hollyhocks" and a blueberry bush that I think is alive, but I'm not sure. It never leafed out, but the stems are green.

~ Lots of lavender and a happy bumble bee. (actually, if you can zoom in on the picture, you can just make out my reflection on him)

~Looks like it will be a dandy blackberry year!

~ Are these elderberries (I hope I hope) there are LOTS!

~ Four of Five- 33 weeks tomorrow!

~And lastly a favorite picture from planting day before B. cut the "hay field".

I'll post what we planted. Eventually.

You make me laugh! I'm so impressed with your soap and your baking, and gardening, all while being pregnant AND have four littles. Truly, you are a wonder.

Can you believe that I stopped at your exit a few weeks back. Mmhmm, Didn't realize it until I came upon it while driving Abigail to my parents. We ate at the Cracker Barrel, and had lunch at the gas station right beside. (Marathon, I think?) Next time, I need to plan ahead, and perhaps we could sit on those rockers in front of the Cracker Barrel for a little visit!

YES!!! When I read your post about traveling, I wondered if it was by me. Let me know next time you're out this way!

Oh , and yes Marathon and Cracker Barrel- what else does a hick town off the highway need?

Question, Question... well that is if you don't mind. How do you get your bread to stay fresh for a week? Do you freeze some? I find that my bread last two maybe three days before it starts to taste old and stale.

Wow lots of pictures! I agree with the first comment, you are superwoman.

I'll tell you the little secret to the new blog look (I hate the new look too, but I figured out the trick to the pictures)
You can upload all the pictures you want to use in your post, that little blue frame that wraps the picture, that means the picture is selected to post. So click each picture, and the blue frame goes away. Now select the first picture you want shown and click "add selected" blogger will add it to your post. Write whatever you want, new picture? Click the camera icon thing. voila, all your pictures are still there, select the one you want, click "add selected" and it will add it.

You can also drag the pictures around when in type mode.

Hope that helps!! =]

Your blog friend,
L.Flores

Wendi- yes I freeze the extra in freezer bags. Guess I forgot that : ) And I keep the loaf we're using in a freezer bag as well, just to stay fresher. It sometimes gets a little dry anyway, so I use it for grilled cheese or something toasted.

O.f.a.A.- I think I get that, I'll give it a go anyhow- thanks!

We'll it's about time you posted! Stinking girl. How DARE you keep me from my Bonnie fix?

I so enjoy your posts. They are chatty and hilarious and REAL. Love that.

And now for specifics~

* I hate blogger too. I hate that the pictures take forever to upload but NOW, you can't even work on the writing part while they are doing it. I have taken to making two new posts (one for pictures and one for words) and when the pictures are finally on the one new post, I cut and paste them to where I want them on the words. Still. a. pain.

* That cheesecake looks to DIE for. Me want! Oh my goodness.

* I can't tell if they are elderberries or not because my bush is like, as tall as me and they look like a ground cover? I just recently posted an upclose picture of elderberry flowers. Do the flowers look the same? Maybe the one here is just ancient and they are usually small.

* I have been very bad about bread baking these days. Must get better.

* Sorry about the whiny letter the other day. Bet you wanted to slap me too.

* 33 weeks! I better get cracking on that gift!

* SO jealous that your hubby brings you home flowers. TELL ME he did is as an apology for a huge fight and that he isn't really that awesome?!? PLEASE? (you can lie.)

* Three deer have been spotted across the road for the last two nights at supper time. I can barely sleep a wink. I read somewhere that if you mix eggs with dishwashing soap and pour it around the garden, it will deter them. I am SURE hoping. I used six dozen eggs two days ago! (They were older anyway so it was a perfect solution.)

* That orange table would be perfect in our school room! ;-)

* Wish we had a porch. Instead, we've been eating outside (lunches and dinners) every day in the one teeny spot that affords shade. I hung lights from the tree though-so it feels more "me" now.

*SOAP. You are a soapmaker now? I am SOOOOOOOOOO jealous. That has been on my bucket list for too long... And yours has the most delicious sounding flavors! I seriously wouldn't be able to chose! I would be at the shower hovering over the table all night, trying to decide what to take home.
PS- the Pinterest threw up comment had me rolling.

* pretty garden! Look at those deep trenches! yay! excited weeders? double yay!

(And thus ends the longest comment in the world-longer probably than your post! sheesh.

*

Horrible, horrible fight. Awful. The worst ever. The neighbors were probably ready to call the police.(How are my lying skills? Convinced?)

I've heard the egg thing too, wonder if it would work on geese? (the bane of my gardens existence)

I'll look at your elderberry picture again, these bushes are a tall as I am and taller.

You want to know how terrible I am? I set your letter aside to enjoy after dinner was cleaned up, AND FORGOT IT! Going to go read it now...

Howdy. Yep, we got the storm. It turned out to be just insane amounts of rain and a little wind. One day I think we got upwards of 10". But we needed it. Now the sun is out and the humidity about makes you go cross eyed the minute you step out the door.

Love all the pictures! Can't help but notice the girls' aprons :-) , super cute!

I would like to eat your cheesecake, sniff your flowers, wash with your soap, chat with the kiddos and walk through your garden (which, by the way looks lovely!)

Random question: In the pic of the kiddos sitting on the porch, where did you get those sippy cups???? They look like the ones we had when we were kids....

Bonnie said...

Elisha- And I would like you to be here doing those things!
As for the sippy-cups, yep, like what we had. From Tupperware for a shocking amount of money (like $20 for 4? I half expected them to be gold plated...)
