Butter Dips

Very quick to make bread sticks, these are great with soups, salad, or any meal that bread goes with.

Butter Dips
1/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp. sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2/3 cup milk

Heat oven to 450, and melt butter in a 9'' sq. pan in oven. Remove as soon as melted. Stir dry ingredients together in mixing bowl. Add milk. Stir slowly with a fork until dough clings together (about 30 strokes) Turn onto a well floured board and knead lightly about 10 times. Roll out 1/2'' thick, and 8'' square. With a floured knife, cut dough in half lengthwise, then crosswise to make 18 sticks. Dip each strip into melted butter on both sides and lay close together in 2 rows in pan. Bake 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve hot.

Variations: Just before dipping, sprinkle a bit of garlic salt into the melted butter (how I always make them).
Add 1/4 cup. grated cheddar cheese to the dry ingredients.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds just before baking.
These are not as good re-heated, so they are best served straight from the oven!
