In a nut-shell: LOVE 'EM.
I used to use liquid Cascade, mostly because we did not have an electric dishwasher when I was growing up (nor do they now. Why should we when there were 10 manual ones?)and that is what my MIL bought for Tops. I didn't know much about it, but I did know pretty quickly that I wasn't especially impressed. Why I didn't switch , I have no idea, but it wasn't until about a year ago that I started using liquid Electrisol. Whoa! nearly $1 cheaper AND it cleaned so much better! Recently (or maybe I just finally noticed- we don't watch much TV) I had started seeing commercials for the Power-Ball Tabs. I always wonder if new products are worth the hype, and when a box of Tabs was on sale last week I decided to give them a go. Wow. no streaky glasses. My plastic and silverware look new. I'm kinda grossed out by what I though had been clean all that time.
We have hard water, and these are definitely worth the extra money in my book. I know you can add vinegar to a load with regular dish washing detergent, but that extra gizmo was removed by a helpful little boy, who can't resist the lure of an empty dishwasher.
WARNING!!!!!!! KEEP THESE TABS(and any dishwasher detergent)UNDER LOCK AND KEY! THEY HAVE A STRONG RESEMBLANCE TO CANDY!!!!

A dishwasher! How spoilt. I would so love one of those, but 'tis not to be. I can't really sacrifice the cupboard space, and then we also haven't bought this house, so don't want to over-invest in it. Never mind.
We didn't have a dishwasher growing up either...but shortly after we moved in here, Jeff put one in for us. I love it! And I do feel a little bit spoiled. But that's OK: I can live with that feeling for now. :)
And I agree with you about those power ball things...good stuff!
