(these plants are actually from last year, but I decided to use the photo since I forgot to take one this year)
I was able to get my garden in last Monday, and after a week of hot, sticky weather, I was still completely SHOCKED to go out Thursday morning and discover my flowers (zinnias and cosmos), and lettuce were already up! Nothing else has poked through yet, and I know it has only been a week yesterday, but I always start getting a little anxious when some seeds come up before others.
Tuesday, we had some rain, and it was a little windy, but imagine my surprise when in the midst of my blog jogging, the power went out for the next 2 hours. This rarely happens "for no good reason", and really threw a monkey wrench in my day. I was already feeling grouchy and a little nauseated, and that did not improve my mood. A nap did though.
Friday, we had both sets of parents over for Fathers Day, and I made dinner as our gift. Southern Fried Baked (venison) Steak, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Salad, and Lime Jello Salad (I get the biggest kick out of making jello salads. I feel delightfully like a 1950's housewife.), Lemonade with spiced Tea cubes, and Rhubarb Dessert with Vanilla Ice cream. Everyone enjoyed it (B. was so funny, he was so excited *all* week about this dinner), and I didn't stress my self out trying to clean and cook all at once. I gave Honey the dust cloth and she blissfully spent the next 10 minutes "helping Mommy because I'm a big girl". I did mop, and straighten the bathroom, but no heavy what-if-they-look-in-my-closets cleaning. (yes I get that way)
Saturday, B. ran a few errands, and since Biscuit had just gone to sleep before he came home, I worked up the nerve to ask for a few hours for myself and went to an antique store I hadn't been to in years (and oh the fun I had poking around. And the prices- VERY reasonable. I want to go back and look some more.) THREE floors of goodies, though the basement (where a lot of furniture was), was VERY wet, and the floor buckled up about 12 inches down the middle. No joke. Oh, and on the main and second floors, it was so creaky I was half afraid of falling through. I also stopped at the library (ahh, no children to watch) and hit the jackpot as far as good reads (Maryjane Butters Life book-one of my faves!)
Sunday was church and lazing around, and yesterday, I cleaned bedrooms, hung out laundry, and baked cookies. Today is bathrooms and more laundry, and hopefully some sewing. I have exactly one maternity skirt that fits. Makes laundry day kinda difficult.
I'm heading off now to add a few more recipes to the Kitchen, have a glorious Tuesday!

I'm just like you with visitors and cleaning -- I've just found out a few friends are coming over tomorrow, and have to fight the urge to stay up late cleaning out the microwave and shining mirrors! I've just baked 20 cupcakes (which overflowed all over the oven) and made a vat of icing to top them ... and I'm planning sandwiches and soup. Am I mad? Probably!
It's fun to read "bits" from your life! I'm so glad you're seeing some results in your garden already. I'm amazed again by how quickly plants grow (sometimes, not always!). A little while back I planted some gladiola bulbs, and it's been fun to see how fast they're shooting up. Your dinner sounds delicious and fun! And speaking of fun, your time out by yourself sounds delightful. It's so refreshing for a mom's soul to do that!
