Planning Time

Even though I'm not a big fan of our particular branch, the library is right down the road from the grocery store, so every Thursday, the kids and I make the trek, and come home loaded down with books. I actually ordered all these canning books in, ready to peruse and begin making my "What to Can" list, but I have to say, I am pretty disappointed in most of them. I want practical, and they mostly have fluff.
If one of the titles catches your eye, let me know and I'll give you my review of it.
On another note, I am going to have to replant my zucchini, cucumbers, and some beans. I am stressing out just a bit since I feel far behind our usual growing schedule, though very cool weather, and the weekend hail have done nothing to help.
The tomatoes however look fantastic, and I am hoping and praying for a good, abundant crop.
More later, a certain little boy needs his pants changed.

Everyone always says to get the Blue Ball Canning book. Maybe the library has that? Also I think you could find recipes for canning on allrecipes.com or a site similar to that where people rate the recipes. Hopes that helps some. God Bless.

Hey sweet Mrs. H.! I actually have the Ball Blue Book...somewhere. I am going crazy because I lost it, and have looked everywhere, but no luck. Its an extension of my arm during canning season, and I think I'm going to have to replace it:0(
I never thought of the internet for recipes- thanks for the tip!

Yup, we'll be there on the 4th! If you will be, we should take some pictures together of our cute bellies. :)

I am just sick with disgust myself here. This is the SECOND year I have been unable to have a garden, and now we are moving away from my Amish roadside stand. I don't know how I will make it through the summer without canning anything at all. Maybe apples...there is one apple tree on our property! Whaaaahhhh!

Ps. Please DO take photos of your cute bellies-and then post yours here so I can see it!

Sarah- You may have acute belly-mine... not so much, but I'll give in 'cuz its you.

Rebecca- You can always come help me! 2 hormonal pregnant women and 4 children under the age of 6- good times. Thats a bummer, can you search out farmers markets, or flea markets (thats where I get the bulk of what I can't grow) on line for where you are moving to? (does that sentence even make sense?) Just think- NEXT YEAR, you can plant the mother of all gardens, and put up to your little hearts content!

Those canning books probably seem like fluff to you because YOU could write a canning book yourself! :)
