The last Thursday in June, a friend and I met at the flea market with our littles and went on the hunt for produce. Dirt cheap prices and people everywhere! We made a unanimous decision to leave the kids with someone next time (even though the 2 little girls and Biscuit had fun, her little guy was bored), because of the crowds. You would think that people might step to the side when they see 2 women (one of which is obviously pregnant) trying to steer a wagon, a stroller and 4 children. Oh no. We got dirty looks and pushed around.
There was so much I wanted to buy, but the crowds, and my own self restraint kept me from getting in over my head. I kept it to 2lbs of cherries, some local strawberries, and 2 flats of California strawberries for making into jam and freezing. I made jam out of the cherries, and when I went to get the strawberries out of the basement (it was hot and humid and the basement was nice and cool, so I stuck them down there for less that 48 hours), they looked like we had mice in the little plastic boxes they came in they were so covered in mold. GRRRR! That is one thing about flea market produce, it is often at the height of being ripe, and if your are going to use it, do so right away!
We had a nice 4th of July, (which I have no pictures of though I will be able to post more pictures now, since we loaded all the camera photos onto a disk, and cleared the cards -hooray!)at a cook out at my aunt and uncles house, then a quiet late evening at home. No fireworks (BOOOH!), but I was honestly to tired to think about dragging the kids out to them anyway.
Today is catch up day, and maybe, now that I've been thinking about it, another trip to the flea market. (I will be calling you in a few minutes if you're reading this Mom).
Have a good Monday!

Lovely, lovely pic -- what marvellous colours. Homemade produce is an artwork!
I, too, like this pic!
I've never made cherry jam before, but it sounds delicious.
Are you going to start a new Home Canning section in your sidebar? :)
