I had one of those "wow" moments today. Yesterday, and into the night, the remnants of Ike came by to say hello. What a messy guest he was. I am flabbergasted at the fact that a hurricane, hundreds of miles away (and as B. pointed out, started off the coast of Africa) still had enough force to leave the path of destruction that it did in our part of the country. The report I read said we had sustained winds of 35 m.p.h., with gusts of 58 m.p.h.. We lost power for about 3-1/2 hours, and a radio announcement said 90,000 people in our area were without power. I doubled up my praying that it would be restored when I heard that, and am truly thankful the Lord heard and answered. Below is the damage we had in our yard. Nothing compared to the all trees and wires my mom saw while taking my sisters to work. Lots of schools were closed today, and last I heard many places still don't have electricity.
My aunt and cousins live near Houston, and road out the storm in a closet, then moved to a bathroom, and my aunts room. They are all (thank you Lord!) OK.

My beautiful apple tree. This is the sight that greeted me as soon as it was light enough to see this morning. I nearly cried. The apples aren't any good to eat, but I love this tree!

Twisted tomato cages (notice how they are all going different directions?), and squashed cosmos.
And the song that kept playing through my mind as I looked at this? Amazing God
Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go?
Or seen heavenly storehouse laden with snow?
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light?
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night?
None can fathom...
Indescribable, Uncontainable You placed the stars in the sky and you know them by name
You are amazing God
All powerful, Untamable, awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God
I probaly have the verses and words all mixed up, but these are the ones I thought of.
I truly am amazed. Here we see the power of His creation at work, yet it is NOTHING compared to the power God has. I mean He would have to have more, He rules the universe, and that's a mighty big job!
And with that thought in mind, I am off to bed!

A big branch fell from the tree buy the patio and landed on the picnic table.

Aw man, sorry you guys lost that tree. I'm glad you were safe in the winds though. We were OK too; our power flickered off a couple of times but that's it.
