"Bocation" Bible School

Honey was old enough for VBS, at my in-laws church this year. She went by herself the first 2 nights with her grandparents, who were leading one of the groups of children. She came home all smiles, and raving over how fun "Bocation" Bible school had been.
I took Biscuit Wednesday- Friday and stuck around for the fun.
The theme was Paul and the early church in Rome. We all got to dress up (even Muffin!), and then after a brief song period, and a skit, we would start our rounds. (by the way, every thing was set up to look like Rome. Right down to Roman guards.) My children were terrified by visiting "Paul" in "prison" (this is also where the main lesson was taught), and the underground church. Both of these things were in dark rooms, with the guards being loud, and my kids would have none of that. I thought it was a bit scary and over their heads anyway, so as soon as the tears started, we would walk around.
After that, or sometimes before, we would visit the market place and do a craft of some kind, visit the beauty shop, or the school, where they wrote their names in - OK I am totally forgetting what the actual term is, so we'll say Roman letters, and the ages in Roman numerals, and the did a bit of carving too. (hey, I haven't had my coffee yet.)
We would meet back at our "family" blanket and discuss what we had learned, have a period correct snack, another 2 songs, and then be done.
It was really well done, and except for my kids (and I overheard a few other little ones being concerned) being terrified of dark rooms, and guards, they had a ball.

Wow! It sounds like a lot of work went into that "Bocation" Bible School. The kids will probably remember it for a long time to come.

Bonnie,

I was just over at Rebecca's blog and saw the beautiful little dress and bonnet you made Adele. I just adore them, the embroidery is lovely.
