Words That I Like

I am re-reading Emilie Barnes ~Simple Secrets To A Beautiful Home~ (also known as The Spirit of Loveliness) for the 8 millionth time. I so love that book. In the first chapter, on welcome, she mentions the word vestibule. A word that for some reason, tickles my fancy. That got me thinking about others words, some commonly used, some not, that I like. Before I was married, I worked for an eye doctor, and they used to tease me all the time about some of the words and phrases I used. Words and phrases that had long since gone out of fashion, and to this day, I don't know what they are, so ingrained into my speech they seem to be. Guess that's what happens when you are a Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys/Trixie Belden junkie. You pick just pick it up.
Anyway, here is a list of some of my favorites. Some are just fun to say. Like piccalilli.
~Vestibule
~Keeping room
~Sitting room
~Twilight
~Shan't
~Diddly
~Veranda
~Davenport
~Dungarees
~Robin
~Dinner (in the correct way- our lunch)
~Luncheon
~Scaresly
~Land sakes
~My Land
~ A Wee Bit
~Dusk
~Lambkin (I call Muffin that all the time)
~The Garden (what we would call the yard)
~ I'll be Jiggered
~ Children
Pin tucked
~ The Loo
~ Photograph
~Persnickety
~Lantern (Actually, if we ever have a farm some day, I want to call it Lantern Hill Farm. Jane of Lantern Hill is one of my favorite L.M. Montgomery books, and doesn't Lantern Hill, just sound so cozy and homey?)
~Gentleman's Farm (sounds a bit more refined than Hobby Farm)
~Gate
~Hollow (if we live off the road, and have lots of tress, it could be Lantern Hollow Farm...)
~Creek
~Glorious
~Puttering
~Homemaking
~Fireside
~Vespers
~Mrs.
~My Dear (especially in B.s rather absent way, because it rolls off his tongue so naturally, instead of Bonnie or Bon.)
~Mama
~Rambling
~Tootles!
~Toot-a-loo!
~ Messiah
~Chums

My parents used to nickname my husband and I the "Indeed I do"s, as both of us used that old-fashioned phrase. Guess some of us just can't help it! (and that's what makes us who we are)

Fun post! I actually used the words (or is it one word?) 'lickety split' when I called my sister today. Haven't heard that in ages so I have no idea what made me do it! :)

Oh my those are old fashioned words? Well I never... I could have sworned you had made a list of many well used words in our family. I will let you in on a little secret (many of those words are used elsewhere in English speaking countries... must be those in the colonies who have lost their way w/ the language, hee hee.)

Jane of Lantern Hill... never heard of it but now must read it plus Simple Secrets To A Beautiful Home. That is once we find the local library and get our cards.

Do you ever think words but don't speak them? You know, like hold conversations in your head? Okay maybe we won't go there, ha ha...

The white flower looks lovely! It is so exciting waiting for spring in a new location. We just found out we have a Korean Lilac bush! What heavenly fragrance come spring!
