Keeping Busy

I occasionally get these really "brilliant" ideas. The most recent, in light of the fact that much sewing needs to be done, was to go through all my fabric, grab anything that caught my eye, no matter how big or small, and wash/iron it so its ready when I am. I also figured I would do all that in about 2 hours. (really) Big Surprise, it didn't happen. But I did get the laundry basket of fabric tackled last night, while watching this:

And resisted the urge to iron as I folded. I just ironed it flat, then folded. Another full basket of the lights left, then darks, and some sheets I forgot about that will be perfect for the girls jammies.

Sunday, I planted the flowers I bought last week. I have a bad habit of picking whatever I think is pretty, so I don't always get enough to plant pots evenly. The only one I planned ahead on was the 3 pots that are along the front of the porch. I hope they fill in more.

There used to be a sugar house in the woods behind our pond. Actually, when B. and I were dating we went for a walk back there and found pieces of buckets, and the tumble down remains of it. I would have liked to explore it, but B. was looking for Kissing Trees, and wasn't as interested in a pile of rotting wood and slate shingles.
All that to say, the welcome slate is a shingle from said sugar house, that my MIL collected on a walk back there.

Hodgepodge left overs. (And sandbox toys)

I have long coveted geraniums. But I am cheap, and geraniums aren't. Then, yesterday, I decided to zip through the plants at W*mart, and I found geraniums, for $1.25 apiece! I was so excited! I scooped up 4 healthy looking ones, and will be planting them in hanging baskets this afternoon.

And finally, Muffin a year ago....

And Muffin today (well, yesterday actually).
Does anyone have ANY suggestions on how to make this stubborn little monkey sleep? She screams bloody murder whenever I lay her down, to the point of throwing up. I finally end up sitting on the floor next to the crib holding her hand 'til she falls asleep, and then sneak out. She's up for the day at about 5:30, and grouchy as all get out. Naps you can forget. She screams the whole time. (and don't tell me she doesn't need naps anymore, her disposition totally proves otherwise) I'm going to try putting her in the play-pen in the room with the other two, since I'm wondering if she just doesn't want to be by herself anymore, but if that doesn't work...
I may go crazy. Before the little are up, and nap times are sometimes my only chance for getting certain things done.
Sigh. Anyway, that's the goings on at the moment. Time to get dressed, I have a mid-wife appointment and everyone is coming along.

I can't give you too much advice about the sleeping thing. I have never had bad sleepers but I think that is because I leave them alone and let them cry it out as little babies so eventually, they just get used to it.

I DO have advice on your geraniums though! Not many people know this but, after the growing season, if you put a paper bag over the container and put the pot in a dark, covered spot (like a basement or shed)--in spring, it will grow again! So many people toss out their geraniums, never knowning that secret! I only found out by mistake, mind you-but I have done it ever since! :-)

Bless you, bless you, bless you!!! Kara does NOT like naps either! Someone mentioned a book to me (wonder if you could check it out of the library?.. hmmm), and we got it and read through it. Very insightful about little ones and "sleeping". Anyway, we started implementing a little bit of what we gleaned out of the book, and it sure works! The book is called "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" the author is Marc Weissbluth.
Your fabric stash is making me drool!

Oh dear! Naps here were given up at one year old, and never resumed -- and Boo still sleeps on the floor in our room (on his little cot mattress) as he claims he's scared alone. We're terribly soft on him, and will lie with him at times until he goes to sleep. But then we only have one, so you can get by with plenty of bad habits! So I'm really not the persons to give advice on sleep issues.
I love that you have red geraniums now -- we're so far away from eachother but I will think of you whenever I pass by mine on the front steps.
Our geraniums never die back -- they simply bloom again every year, but then we don't have snow (but we do get frost).
Did you know you can propagate them with just a piece cut off, then put in a jar of water on the windowsill to shoot? Or simply dip the end of a piece in some honey, then stick it in a pot of dirt and keep moist. They do take a while to get big, though.

Like Rebecca, I let my kids cry it out. I needed some time to accomplish things. Can't stand the crying? Take that time to get your shower!

Your flowers are beautiful. I love geraniums, and I think that one reseeded from last year. I've never had that happen before.
