Old Cake

From February. Because I completely forgot about these pictures until I saw Rebecca's post yesterday, so I hunted around, found my pictures, and here you are.

(I was sure I had taken a better picture of these. Rats.)

Biscuit, is obsessed with chickens. He carries the Murray McMurray Hatchery catalog around and asks every time we go to the library for chicken books. (They have ALL been checked out for the last month, by other people and he is starting to go through withdrawl) So, when asking what kind of cake he wanted, I had a fair idea it would relate to farms/chickens. I forget where I found this idea, but I showed the Chicken Boy and he loved them. For one brief sick moment, I debated making strawberry cake, you know, for the "inside". : D

Anyway, cut up Swedish fish made the comb, orange slice gumdrops made the beaks and chocolate chips were the eyes. Nobody had stocked Easter Peeps yet (I was surprised, they always seem to be some of the first Easter candy available), so on a spur of the moment trip to Joannes, I stumbled on these Christmas clearance gingerbread peeps. 1 package left. Perfect.

Honey wanted a garden cake from the get-go. I had an absolute ball making these!

Crushed up Oreos for the dirt, runts, and fruity tootsie rolls made the vegetables.

The spade is a piece of gum and pretzel sticks. My years of making dollhouse food paid off here.
We made short work of what was left after the family party.

Oh my goodness!!!! So cute! I adore the garden one especially...great ideas!! :) I'm about to make a cake for Ella this weekend and I'm leaning towards a cupcake creation I saw on Pinterest. You just use cupcakes to make the shape of the animal (two horses in this case)...I might however have to steal your idea to use those fruity tootsie rolls for some little details!!! I made an alligator for Sam with cupcakes before and I love the idea because you don't have to cut the cake really...just grap a cupcake and go, kwim? :)

Aw the cuteness. I love the chickens.

Andrew is the same way about cows and says EVERY week at the library "Can you help me find some cow books?" Oy.

Your hubby has some serious willpower not to go out and get a bunch when that sweet boy loves 'em so much. I would have broken long long ago and probably given him some chicks for his birthday.

And then his heart would have stopped beating. So maybe that would have been a very bad idea after all.

;-)

Love the garden cake too. I remember doing a garden cake using fondue instead of fruity tootsies. I mean-talk about great idea. I ended up throwing away so much fondue (don't really like the flavor all that much.) But that was probably my most favorite cake to date to make. It was just plain fun.

I too like cupcakes so much more for some reason...much more snackable. ;-)
